Things to do before you die

Today was a pretty boring day for me. I didn't do anything really exciting, which is a shame. Life is too short for not doing exciting stuff. To keep myself inspired, I have a list of really exciting things I need to do before I die. Obviously, this is stuff you can't do every day. Unless you're super rich of course, and that's why I want my billion dollars. Here's a few items from my list.

1. Go scuba diving
Most of earth's surface is under water. There's so much stuff to see there, that some of it has got to be exciting. Also, I have never met a person, who went scuba diving and did not fall in love with it.

2. Climb a mountain
This seems suitably difficult, dangerous and rewarding.

3. Go surfing
A lot of people really love surfing. I need to see, what's that all about. I also hear, it's very good excercise.

4. Go tubing
This is something you can do in Van Vieng, Laos. You drift down a river in a huge tire. On the sides of the river, there are tons of bars.

5. Do a bungee jump
This isn't as exciting, or as expensive as the other items on the list, but it's still something I really want to do.

6. Eat dog
I wanted to do this, while I was in China. I never got the chance though, since finding a dog place in Shanghai is really difficult. They say it's a delicasy.

The Power of Failure

One day I'm going to write a book called "The Power of Failure." It's about all the ways failing in everything is good for you. Here's a little preview.

1. If you failed at something it means you tried something
This is pretty simple. You can't fail without trying, and if you keep failing at stuff, that means you keep trying stuff. Eventually something is going to work out for you.

2. You learn from failing
I really don't need to elaborate. You know as well as I do, that most things you know, you learned from your mistakes.

3. Talking about your failures makes people want to help you
This is difficult, since being negative makes people hate you. But if you manage to talk about your failures without being negative everyone will want to help you, and when people start helping you, they never stop. Helping is addictive.

4. Failure makes you motivated
Right after failure, you feel really motivated for a while. You just need to succeed to make up for your failure. You want to work harder and harder, until you get it right.

5. Failure is good for art
The best art is often about people expressing negative feelings. Just think, how many songs are about failing in love. Sometimes failure gives you the feelings you need to make a great piece of art.

6. Failure is interesting
Some of my most vivid memories are of failing. I think the same goes for you. Think, how boring your life would have been without all these experiences.

Thing to do in the morning to make you feel good for the whole day

I usually feel the least good during the morning, which is unfortunate, since how you feel in the morning affects, how you feel during the day. Fortunately lately I've found a couple of tricks to make me feel pretty good in the morning and as a consequence lot better during the day.

1. Sleep for 8 hours or more
After a good sleep you feel amazing. Really relaxed.

2. Eat breakfast
Breakfast makes you immediately feel more awake and energized.

3. Drink both coffee and tea
For some reason the combination gives you a really nice high. I have no idea, why.

4. Don't snooze your alarm
Getting sleep 10 minutes has the same affect as not getting any sleep at all. You will still feel tired. You will also feel guilty, because once again you were not able to stop yourself from snoozing.

5. Go running
This will make you feel good about yourself. You already accomplished something and it's only the morning.

So there you go. There is nothing here, you didn't learn from you mom (except for the coffee and tea thing), but sometimes moms are completely right.

How to come up with a good idea for a business (or anything)

Coming up with ideas is hard, but you can do it, if you follow these tips.

1. Come up with ideas every day
Spend half an hour a day writing down ideas. At first the ideas are going to be pretty bad, but you will get better.

2. Steal
Stealing ideas is OK. Everybody does it from Bill Gates to Bill Clinton. If you see a good idea somewhere, start thinking how to make something like that of your own.

3. Start working on a problem
If you are working on a problem, you mind will subconsciously try to solve it. This is, where the best ideas come from. You just need to spend some conscious effort on solving the problem everyday. It's not difficult to find problems in need of a solution. Just think of something that annoys or bothers you.

I was planning on writing more, but this is all you really need. If you follow these steps, after a while you will have tons of great ideas for a business.

Advice for students: How to make your CV more interesting

Not too long ago, I had trouble getting a job, since I didn't have any real experience. And I couldn't get any real experience, because nobody would hire me. Fortunately, there are ways to make your CV more interesting, so you can get that first real job.

1. Learn a skill
Having specific skills can make more useful for the company you want to work for. The best thing is those new skills can be learned on your own. You can learn a new language. You can learn Python. You can learn Photoshop or Indesign. Anything.

2. Go abroad
If you go abroad you are bound to learn something and employers know that. If you are still in school you can go on an exchange. You could also volunteer for some non-profit organization, or you can always find a job teaching English in China.

3. Have an interesting hobby
This shows you are passionate about something and you can do stuff long term. Besides, if your hobby is really interesting, people are going to remember your CV. Good examples include: stand-up comedy, theater, any sports, chess...

4. Start a business
This gives you some "real" experience as well, and starting is business doesn't have to be hard. You can just sell t-shirts on eBay and start calling yourself a CEO.

5. Make something
If you took my advice, you now know Python. You could make a computer game and put it on the internet. Or if you still don't have any skills, you could start a blog. You can link to your blog or game or whatever on your CV. This shows you can actually get something done.

6. Meet interesting people
So maybe you didn't start that business, but your friend did. Maybe he can recommend you. Maybe your friend's dad is the CEO of Goldman Sachs. He could recommend you. The more people you meet the easier this gets.

How to stop losing money on stupid shit

Occasionally I go totally broke. No matter how much money I make, I tend to use just a little bit more, and enp up having no spare money to use. I know you do that as well. Here are some tips to stop doing it.

1. Keep track of your spending
Keep the receipts from everything you buy. At the end of the day make a list of everything you've bought and how much money you've spent. If you feel bad, while writing the list, the next day you are not as tempted to buy all the stupid shit you did today.

2. Be careful, when you go out
Partying is a very efficient way to lose money. Alcohol is expensive, especially in bars, paying for cover is expensive and alcohol impairs your judgment, so you end up spending even more money. So leave you credit cards at home, and only take cash and only take the amount you intend to spend.

3. Learn how to cook
Restaurants are expensive. You can eat as well, or even better, at home, if you know how to cook. You can also invite people to cook with you, and spend the time networking. That way you don't even lose time.

4. Stop treating yourself with something nice
Sometimes you feel down, or tired or something. You want to buy yourself something nice to make you feel better. I usually buy chocolate, which is relatively inexpensive, but the money adds up. The worst thing is, you don't even feel better. Instead you should go to the gym or running or meet a friend.

5. You don't need that many new clothes
Only buy new clothes, when you absolutely need them to impress somebody or if you walk around wearing rags. The same goes for jewelry, but not for toothpaste.

6. Try to travel cheap
Travelling is great, but you can spend a lot of money doing it. Try to always do stuff the cheapest way you can. Stay in a hostel instead of a hotel, use the bus instead of flying, go to the interesting places near, where you live (I live in Finland and have never been to Copenhagen, but instead to almost every country in South-East Asia), don't buy any souvenirs, take pictures and send postcards instead.

Hope this was any help to you.
